Design and Construction at Caltech is here to provide a full spectrum of project related services. From initial feasibility studies, programming, rough-order estimates and project life cycle management. Our intent is to provide value-added services on an as needed basis. We have in-house Architectural and Engineering design capabilities, as well as the ability to procure those additional services from our partners in industry. Hence, we are able to provide space(s) to support the World-class research and education of the Institute.
Our major product is in Renewal Projects where existing building space(s) are renovated to meet the mission needs of our Caltech community. From there, we move into Capital Projects (projects that are in common areas and include exterior work). Capital Projects tend to have a higher allocated budget as well, thus the required Board of Trustees approval ALL Capital Projects require.
In construction now are:
- The Hameetman Center, which is moving along nicely and scheduled to complete early 2019.
- Design & Construction of the Chen Neuroscience Research Building and the relocating of the Bungalow Courtyard. The Bungalows having historical relevance and were relocated during the summer of 2018. Moved from the corner of Wilson Ave. & Del Mar Blvd. to Catalina Ave. & San Pasqual St., scheduled to complete late in 2019. The design of the Chen building is complete and construction is under way, scheduled complete in 2020.
Along with these exciting projects, there are several more projects highlighted on our Completed Capital Projects page. The Completed Projects page is a combination of Renewal & Capital projects that have finished construction within the last few years. The most recently completed projects are:
- The Bechtel Residence, which is became ready to occupy in October 2018.
- The major renovation (Top 3 floors) of the Linde Hall & Kellogg buildings finished in the fall of 2018.
