Design Floor Plans
The Hameetman Center will be the new hub of social activities on campus.
The Hameetman Center is a new campus center that is under construction on the site of the former Winnett Student Center. The Hameetman Center will replace the Winnett as Caltech’s central community gathering place.
The two-story center is named in honor of Caltech trustee Fred Hameetman (BS ’62) and his wife, Joyce, who provided the initial funding to initiate the design of the reimagined campus hub. Once completed, Hameetman Center will feature a large public lounge, an expanded Red Door Marketplace, the Caltech Store, music rehearsal facilities, student club rooms, a multipurpose room, and a conference room. The rehearsal facility is being made possible thanks to a gift from emeritus professor of theoretical physics Steven Frautschi and his wife, Mie.
The Hameetman Center will be located near the Chandler Dining Hall and the north undergraduate houses.
24,000 square feet and two stories tall, with a partial basement.
The upper floor will house a large music rehearsal room, multipurpose room, conference room, and lounge.
The ground level will feature the Caltech Store, an expanded Red Door Marketplace, and an open, versatile lounge. This will also open up to new outdoor gathering spaces on all sides of the building.
The basement level, accessible by interior stairs and an elevator, will house the recording studio and various club spaces.
The building has been designed in accordance with Caltech’s sustainability guidelines
August 2017-Winter 2018. The Hameetman Center is scheduled to open in late 2018. Currently on schedule, estimated to open December 2018 - January 2019.
